Dr. Tapas Goswami


Dr. Tapas Goswami is an Assistant Professor in the School of Engineering and Technology at BMU. Prior to joining at BMU, he has taught at Glocal University and conducted research at IIT Kanpur. Dr. Goswami finished his PhD in Chemistry (Laser Spectroscopy) from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur in 2010. Subsequently he went to Stanford University, USA for his first post-doctoral fellowship and after completing one year at Stanford moved to his next post-doctoral position at Michigan State University, USA.

In his doctoral research, Dr. Goswami built a state-of-the-art oil free ultra-high vacuum system for his supersonic molecular beam experiments, which has allowed him to probe and control the gas phase photochemical processes using shaped femtosecond laser pulses with ultrahigh precession. He was also involved in probing the ultrafast dynamics in solution phase. His post-doctoral research at Stanford University, USA concentrates on the understanding of the reaction dynamics of some neutral chemical reactions using three dimensional ion imaging technique. Moreover his research at Michigan State University, USA focus on understanding the strong-field laser-molecule interaction and the control of photochemistry using shaped ultrafast laser pulses.

Dr. Goswami has published a number of research paper in reputed international and nation journals. He has received a number of scientific awards like best poster awards in national (National Laser Symposium’08, organized by BARC) and international (Asian conference on Quantum Information Science’09, Nanjing, China) conferences. In 2010, he was also awarded international travel grant from Department of Science and Technology for attending and presenting oral presentation in an international conference (ACUP-2010) held at National Taiwan University, Taiwan.

He ranked 11th all over India with 99.69 percentile in GATE exam in 2005. He also qualified NET exam in 2005 and enjoyed Junior and Senior research fellowship from University Grant Commission during the doctoral research. He received the national scholarship from the University of Burdwan for the excellent performance in undergraduate. Dr. Goswami believes that his great passion for teaching and strong academic background will make him a good catalyst to fulfil dream of students.
