Dr. Narasimhan has a combination of academic, administration and entrepreneurship (experience), enjoying the privilege of being the alumni of three premier institutes of the country. Dr. R. Narasimhan, formerly Deputy Dean, Great Lakes Institute of Management, Chennai, is a product of Roorkee University (now IIT, Roorkee) in Applied Mathematics (1980), and IIT, Madras for his PhD (1985) in Computational Mechanics. Starting his career in Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering, Chennai, he went on to be associated with the college for 17 years in various capacities, including establishing new departments, campus wide networking and automation and so on. He joined Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) for a post-doctoral fellowship (1990) and returned to Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering and headed the Department to continue his institutional building work.
He then joined HCL Technologies, as a Senior Manager and held project responsibilities including their Knowledge Management and CMM initiatives. He was on the top management team to establish Corporate Knowledge Management System for the company. The passion for teaching brought him back to the world of academics. He joined hands with Prof. Bala V Balachandran, a distinguished Professor from Kellogg, to establish Great Lakes Institute of Management at Chennai. During this period, he traveled widely across various countries to build partnerships. He played a critical role in successfully running the school for five years. He was then involved in IT infra consulting and turnaround projects for about three years. He teaches a wide range of subjects including Technology and Innovation Strategy, IT Strategy, Business Systems Design and Strategic Management for Business Management students and Fluid Mechanics, Non-linear Systems, Relational Database Management etc. for engineering students.
