Dr. Das, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, completed his Ph.D from I.I.T, Kharagpur and has over thirty-four years of experience working in industrial R&D; in organisations such as Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland.
He completed his B.E. from Regional Engineering College (currently N.I.T) Durgapur in Mechanical Engineering and his M.Tech from I.I.T, Kharagpur. During his M.Tech, he worked extensively in two phase flow and pneumatic transportation. His PhD from I.I.T., Kharagpur was on finite element analysis of corner joints in complex structures such as automotive frames.
He has worked in the field of development of trainer aircraft, various commercial vehicles and construction equipment namely in HAL, Bangalore, Tata Motors, Jamshedpur, Ashok Leyland Ltd, Chennai and SANY Heavy Industry Ltd. Pune. His specialization is in the development of off-highway vehicles like multi-axle tippers and vehicles suitable for army operation. He has also worked extensively on diesel engine emission and noise reduction, kmpl improvement programmes, failure analysis and reliability improvement. Prior to joining BML University, he was teaching at MVN University, Palwal.
He takes active part in promulgation of FOSS (free and open source software) and is an avid Linux user. In his leisure time he enjoys photography, classical music, swimming and playing table tennis. He also enjoys travelling especially visiting hill stations.
