Prof. B.S.Satyanarayana is currently working as Vice-Chancellor of BML Munjal University (BMU), India
. He holds a Ph.D in Electrical Engg from Cambridge University UK
. He has over 32 years Industry, R&D institutions, Academics and Government Policy Experience, working in India, UK and Japan & with international partners across the globe. The nature of work includes setting up of start-up companies, new labs/groups in Academic, R&D & Industrial environment, change management, government policies, working for transformation of Higher Education, & National and Industry-Academic interaction. Key outcomes include many first-time novel products development from materials, devices, process, and characterisation instrumentation to production process automation. This has led to multiple fold increase in revenues in the short span of time, and initiating & implementing projects worth over $ 50 million. In the last decade his work in Indian academic institutions towards Industry-Academic collaboration has led to establishment of over 75 industry based labs and courses worth over Rs.300 Crores in areas including Automation, Mechatronics, Advanced Manufacturing (Industry 4.0), Lubricant & Tribology, IoT, Signal Processing, Networks, Analytics, Large Area and Flexible Electronics and Electrical Cabling. He holds two patents, has filled for ten patents, published over 140 papers in journals & conf. proceedings, delivered over 200 invited and contributed presentations. He has guided 3 Ph.Ds and 8 are currently working under his guidance. New course in the area of Microelectronics Processing & MEMS, Large Area and Flexible Electronics, Macroelectronics, and Vacuum nanoelectronics in Indian academic system has led to 1000s of Indian students now leading global organisations in India and abroad, winning awards and taking up cutting edge R&D in India and abroad. Thus at all the places of work he has entered new domains, created new facility, trained new teams, demonstrated new technologies, bringing in frugal innovation, leading to grant of 2 Patents and 10 filed. He has been featured in many prominent national and international print and media publications. In the last 12 years he has worked towards creating an environment for Sustainable & Inclusive Innovation & “Make in India”. Highlights of his work include:
Some of the first of its kind technology developed include :
i) Develop of the world’s first room temperature grown nanocarbon based cold cathode lamp along with associated process and characterization equipment’s in in Japan (2004).
ii) Developed & Demonstrate Japan’s first cold lamp technology using diverse nanocarbons other than CNT in a startup company in 2001.
iii) First Ph.d in Cambridge University UK in the area of Vacuum Nanoelectronics (1999).
iv) Established the India’s first Center of Excellence for Large Area and Flexible Electronics in a college with World Bank TEQUIP grant in 2012.
v) Established the first Integrated Circuit Design and Fabrication facility in an Indian University in Kurukshetra University 1993.
vi) Facilitated adaptation and Mass production of NPL technology for space and defense application at HARTRON Ambala Cantt for MiG Fighters, Satellites and defence Instrumentation (1991).
vi) Member of the team that Demonstrated India’s first Integrated Amorphous Silicon Solar Cell Panel technology on Glass and world’s highest reported current density of 22mA/cm2 in 1988.
vii) Member of a team that developed India’s 1st Indigenous Plasma CVD system for Diamond like Carbon (DLC) coatings for defence, machine tools and solar cell applications.1989
viii) his initiative led to an Indian student solar car team being the first in the country to participate in the 3000 km solar car rally in Australia
ix) His experiential learning enabled outcome based education curriculum implementation at RVCE, led to government of India chose RVCE in 2013-14 for review of India’s NBA process, by international experts for India’s entry as permanent member of Washington Accord, which happened in 2014.
x) Thus his efforts linked with the forward thinking management enabling has led to over 10000 students and hundreds of faculty in private institutions getting opportunity to learn and work on emerging technologies at par with the best in the world. Many have now become global leaders and entrepreneurs with the experience.
